It was a lack luster day in the District of Columbia as voters took to the polls in the April 3 Primary Election. The results – incumbents overwhelmingly held onto their seats.

For thousands of celebrants, the day of President Barack Obama’s second inauguration started with a visit to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monument, a chance to mark both Obama’s occasion and Martin Luther King Day.

Eight months after he initially filed a lawsuit over the actions of the D.C. Council, candidate Paul Zukerberg finally got a big win in his quest to force the election of a D.C. attorney general, an election which was approved by voters overwhelmingly in 2010.

D.C. supporters of marijuana took a hard punch after House Republicans flexed their muscle against outnumbered Democrats looking to legalize the drug.

Today marked an historic moment moving in the direction of DC statehood.

It has been a grueling month for District residents insulted time and time again by Republican congressional leaders attacking the D.C. Home Rule Charter. 

It’s easy for the majority of Americans, regardless of race, ethnicity and political affiliation to ignore the fact that in the nation’s capital hundreds of thousands of people are denied full citizenship.

In his recent State of the Union (SOTU) address delivered to both chambers of the United States Congress before an international audience, President Obama didn’t mention his support of District statehood and that disappointed statehood activists and District residents.
