To the family and friends of Ms. Lillian Huff,
Our hearts were deeply saddened as we learned of the passing of Ms. Huff. In your hour of sorrow, may it help to know that there are those who care. Ms. Huff set a standard of extraordinary caring and commitment to the many things that she valued and set one for us to judge ourselves by.
Her commitment to DC statehood was unquestioned. Her long-time involvement with the political scene of Washington, DC and of the national scene helped us tremendously. She was always available and ready with astute observations and her unique perspective gathered over years of committed involvement. As our DC statehood historian, we were so privileged to work with the person who served as the first chair of the original DC Statehood Constitutional Convention connected to the first DC Statehood Referendum in 1982, she was founding president of the DC Federation of Democratic Women, a fierce advocate for women’s rights and served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
We are also reminded of her love and respect for youth and their potential to make positive change for our future. We hope to incorporate even more of what she suggested in our plans. Of course, it goes without saying that her love for this very church, Florida Avenue Baptist, her church family and our Lord and Savior was with her continuously.
We want you to know that we loved and greatly respected Ms. Huff as an important member of the Washington, DC political and social fabric. Please know that we will keep her in our hearts and pray for the family on the loss of their loved one.
Yours in Christ,
Anise Jenkins
